Wildcrafting Herbal Bundles for Smoke Cleansing
Herbs have been collected, dried, and wrapped since ancient times. Their medicinal properties, aromatherapy, and ritualistic burning have all been applied to folk magic practices.
Take a walk through your neighborhood and see if there are any herbs growing that you could use for your bundle. This is more sustainable than buying white sage or palo santo which may have been over harvested or unethically sourced on sacred land.
In many regions of North America, you easily can find: Yarrow, Cedar, Lavender, Rosemary, Rose Petals, Mountain Sage, and many more plants for your herbal bundle.
How to Make an Herbal Bundle:
Layer the largest sprigs in the palm of your hand. Start with 6-8 inch pieces as a backbone.
Then continue to layer other colorful herbs and botanicals on top of it.
When your bundle is at least 2 inches thick, begin to wrap it with your cotton twine.
Start at the bottom and wind upward at a slant, then back down in the opposite direction so it criss-crosses.
Tie off and trim. Allow to cure for 2 weeks.
RECIPE:
6-8 inch sprigs, branches, or botanicals such as: Cedar, Rosemary, Yarrow, Lavender, Sage, Roses, 20 inches of cotton twine for wrapping, scissors for trimming.
USE: After you’ve wrapped your bundle, allow it to dry for 2 weeks. Light the tip of the bundle for a few seconds and then blow out. Allow the smoke to waft through your space and over your aura. Snuff out in a ceramic dish or shell after use. It is believed that the herbal smoke can cleanse and purify stagnant, unwanted energy.
